Elementary Level SSAT Tutoring — Grades 3–4

Patient, age-appropriate preparation for young learners taking the Elementary Level SSAT. Dr. Donnelly builds foundational skills and test confidence in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Elementary Level SSAT

What Is the Elementary Level SSAT?

The Elementary Level SSAT is designed for students currently in grades 3 or 4 who are applying to independent and private schools for entry into grades 4 or 5. It is the entry-level version of the SSAT, testing foundational verbal, quantitative, and reading skills in an age-appropriate format.

While the Elementary Level is shorter and less complex than the Middle and Upper Level tests, it still requires preparation. Young students are often unfamiliar with standardized test formats, timed sections, and multiple-choice strategy. The one-quarter-point guessing penalty applies at all levels, including Elementary, making it important for even young test-takers to learn when to answer and when to skip.

Dr. Donnelly specializes in working with young learners. His approach is patient, encouraging, and interactive — building both the academic skills and the test-taking confidence that help children perform at their best without feeling pressured or overwhelmed.

Building Confidence

Test Preparation Without the Stress

For many children in grades 3 and 4, the Elementary Level SSAT is their first experience with a standardized test. Dr. Donnelly understands that the way a child is introduced to testing can shape their relationship with exams for years to come. That is why every session is designed to build confidence alongside skills.

Preparation includes gradual exposure to the test format, short timed exercises that build stamina without overwhelming young learners, and positive reinforcement that celebrates progress. Students become familiar with the types of questions they will see, the layout of the answer sheet, and the pacing of each section — so there are no surprises on test day.

Parents consistently report that their children feel calm, prepared, and even excited after working with Dr. Donnelly. That emotional readiness is just as important as academic preparation at this age.
